This Neurohop is Fire!

Othercide Records brings you the Insurrectionists EP

Othercide Records continues to break barriers and is assisting in pushing through that neurohop sound we’ve come to love from artists like Chee, Ivy Lab, and Mefjus. Their latest release from artist Signs titled “Bandulu” EP was massive. This new EP features various artists showing different sides of the neuro-hop spectrum. When first looking at the artist like I felt like Ordure and Posij were going to steal the show but I was blown away from the funky sound brought to you by neurofunk producer Disprove. His track ‘Hyuman’ is a massive piece of music. Its the kind of tracks any listener would approve of! Big ups to the label and the sounds throughout! Check out this massive release now! Check out the sick track from Ordure down below:

From the presser:

Artists // Posij, Ordure, Glpyh & Survey, Ak Hash & Host, Disprove
Release // The Insurrectionists EP
Label // Othercide
Release Date // 29.01.18

Between layers divisible in the fabric of space and time, the fragments of another universe have crept through into our own. Resonance of depths new interfere with the very laws of our reality, creeping with menacing subtlety ever further into the context that surrounds and binds us. The revolt is close, matter set to be usurped by THE INSURRECTIONISTS – weaponized low frequencies manifesting the key from the SUBVERSE.

Following rapidly on the tail of SIGNS ultra effective introduction of OTHERCIDE RECORDINGS fresh low tempo series – SUBVERSE – a new wave of bass is at the horizon, formulating a warm-edged secondary movement in the concept. THE INSURRECTIONISTS EP, consists of 5 superbly crafted weighted frequency assaults from AK HASH & HOST, DISPROVE, GLYPH & SURVEY, ORDURE and POSIJ. An artful set of accomplished sonic ideas that deliver milk for the ears whilst starving the lungs of air with their low-pressure drops. The SUBVERSE manifesto is clear, the subliming has begun.

Razlom is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Their recent release on Bad Taste “Thriller” has certainly impressed and made the rounds around all dance floors.  You So Fat Records CEO, Cooper, Encode, and Nouwa are making their mark with a sound that is certainly different within the realm of Neurofunk Drum & Bass. The Steam Engine of Neurofunk

Magnetude continues to run through the competition!

Oh my goodness. Eatbrain is slcertainly one of the most respectable labels out there. The curators have the best taste in the neurofunk sound. They just had some slammers released and while we feel they are releasing too much at times, they are blowing us away with every release. With that said, this release is straight fire!

Magnetude rocked a fantastic release with Lifted Music and that track “Now Run” hyped me up so much! Now, with Eatbrain, Magnetude releases what I feel is Eatbrains best release to date. All tracks are hype but our favorites are Press Play and Banshee. Take a listen below and make sure you buy to support this monsterous duo!

iluvdrumandbass We all Love It!

iluvdrumandbass is the bee’s knees!

Whoa! So over the past few days, a wave of community has surged online. Several pioneers and drivers of the Drum & Bass sound got together and discussed the importance of reaching out on social media platforms. They are absolutely correct. All of the fans of Drum & Bass are certainly biased that the sound is amazing. However, one of the problems our sound has is the lack of viewership of the average listener. This has held us back and has kept our business from growing as big as other top level genres. Some factors have pushed us to the back of the room and seclude us from the rest of the club music seen. We simply don’t have a public “visual” look to show how professional our sound is. We have let our rebellious hard heads stay in the raver attire we grew up with. This, along with, drugs within “rave” culture (as portrayed by the media), has made all people steer clear of our scene and dub our sound “techno.” Which angers me btw! And now to the birth of iluvdrumandbass.

I’ve said this needed to be changed for ever ago. But to this day, it hasn’t, for everyone outside of England, anyway. But times are changing and the artists are using the limitless power of the world wide web to create a community where we de-segragate our sub genres and have one full playlist where all labels and artists will have the chance to be heard. Check out the latest from labels such as RAM, Hospital, Technique, Viper, Breakbeat Kaos, Formation & Playaz’s, Liquicity, EatbrainCritical, Santoku and more!

Check out Spotify’s newest Drum & Bass playlist I ❤ DRUM & BASS here.

I ❤ DRUM & BASS represents an unprecedented act of unity and a coming together of Drum & Bass labels from all over the world. An acknowledgement of the genre’s diversity and multifaceted strengths by creating a definitive musical resource, a constantly updated playlist from all the scenes label’s and artists.

Spanning all sub-genres and being inclusive of all participating labels and artists ranging from RAM, Hospital, Technique, Viper, Breakbeat Kaos, Formation & Playaz’s, Liquicity, Eatbrain, Exit and Critical.. and that’s just for starters!

The concept emerged in October 2017 on a special message board originally set up to celebrate Grooverider’s birthday, with DJ Fresh sparking a conversation about the importance of adapting to and embracing streaming platforms. This line of thinking inspired Simon Bassline Smith to come up with the concept of a definitive drum & bass playlist for everyone’s music to feature on as soon as it’s released. A playlist with all forms of drum & bass from across the globe, self-organised by the scene itself and curated by the labels, with each label picking 1 track per week to be included.

A project with no political or corporate agenda, that exists purely to provide a home for the sounds of this global movement. A place where fans of the genre can explore the diverse sonic landscape of the music they love, or for those who want to explore the genre to immediately have access to the full spectrum. Without the bias of major label ownership and curation.

Driven by the strength of the idea, soon a core following of Dan (DJ Fresh), Simon Bassline Smith, Mickey Finn, Grooverider, Brendan Futurebound and DJ SS excitedly invited label heads from all over the world into a telegram chat room and I ❤ Drum & Bass was born.

Hundreds of players and labels have come together and committed to the concept from across the scene to bring you a place where the latest music is added daily by all the labels and artists you love. Including long-running institutions, hype and fresh labels and also niche imprints. Even unsigned releases and Drum & Bass releases from outside the traditional Drum & Bass labels are represented.

I ❤ Drum & Bass represents an evolving attitude in one of the most consistent and present genres of club music, bringing a new unity and energy to the table that’s set to invigorate the genre and inspire the world of music.

We need your help to spread the word. So please get on Facebook / Twitter/ Instagram / Snapchat and help us spread the message #iluvdrumandbass

Fragz promizes to deliver!

He does with his “Promises and Lies” EP on Redlight Records

Fragz is certainly a stand out producer who has been known to make some of the hardest pre-hardcore style of Drum & Bass. Fragz, has set aside the techno influenced pots and pans in the cupboard. He’s now cooking with future space utensils. The Portugal native has signed onto UK’s Red Light Records with his “Promises & Lies” EP. The EP features artists Impak, Disphonia, and the title track features MC Kryptomedic. The title track is where its at! The crunchy baseline and epic synths and pads take your deep. This is a neck breaker for sure and you MUST BUY! The tracks are out sooner than you think. Watch this space!

Glados EP Represents

So I recently had the opportunity to fully listen to the Glados EP out on Inspected Records thanks to the almighty Terminal. This is a various artist EP that does well against others and we are surely impressed from the status that Insected has put forth.

Glados EP features Neurofunk heavyweights Billain, Malux, Posij, and nuero-hop/dubstep badman Culprate. This eclectic EP brings forth al sides of the neuro brain. Billain comes with his track “Specialist” which shows the sickest in his sound design and though its a “emotionless” track as soon as the drop hits, it sure stirs the fire into being a fast paced technically sound tune. Malux comes correct as always and hits hard with his dance floor oriented Neurofunk with his track “Rubix” our favorite of this EP. Posij comes super correct on this EP. Posij known for some of the sickest Euro Neuro and thing swimming track surely does it right. Culprate’s track pays homage to underground hip hop. The creativity and use of effects and sound design is great.

All in all this is a pretty dope release and while we can’t say these tracks are all dance floor smashers, each can surely fit into a set where ever you are playing.

Long Awaited Noisia Album LEAKED

Spilling over the Outer Edges

So, we come across it again. The lack of respect for the musician. In a world where nothing is free, those looking to be embraced hurt the most. We remember the Napster days when P2P sharing was ran ramped we saw the fall of the music seen. Every artist felt the pain. From the millions lost by super stars to the pennies lost by bedroom producers. It was a shame to see the fall. No longer could you make a living solely from your creative process. A transition occurred where the money needed to be made from the actual appearance of the artist and how they perform. While it’s great to see them live, not everyone has such an opportunity. Also, contrary to that belief some major artists say they didn’t feel this pain. The pain is for those non grammy winning artists who would like to see some monetary compensation for the time they spent making a track that is available every to buy. Will Noisia feel such pain?

The only benefit of such tragedy is that this P2P world causes for free promotion. We take back to Spor who released his album “Caligo” for free on the popular P2P sharing platform BitTorrent. He also made the album available to buy for those true fans who wanted to support the album and the Spor sound we all miss. We loved his quote: “Having the Spor album live as a self-sufficient shared container via Bittorrent, something that’s everywhere and nowhere at the same time, replicating and spreading – embodies the nature of Spor. It’s my underground self.” This idea is epic and befitting to the nature of the underground Drum & Bass producer. With that said, all this helps is for the artist to expose his music and get light of the Drum & Bass fanbase. The album, while not the best from Spor, was free and helped promote both the artist and the P2P platform. Now, we all know this was on purpose… such is not the case for Drum & Bass monsters known as Noisia.

Feeling the Pain.

“As you might have noticed, our album got leaked. Many, many sad face. But on the positive side: we’re now releasing it as soon as we can. That means if you buy it on our own store, you can download it right away. Enjoy!” <3 Martijn, Nik and Thijs – www.noisia.nl

Ugh, that was a painful read. Noisia expressed their frustration on the fact that all of their hard work went no where. Or did it? When you go into so much work painting the Mona Lisa and then have someone take a picture, print it up and share it to the masses… It simply makes you want to hang your head… Noisia felt such in their post. While most breaking news is bad news, we feel this may help them. Noisia has now released their long awaited album “Outer Edges” on their site available today and then EVERYWHERE on Friday August 5th. We bought and took a listen…

DNB Magazine Approved?

We purchased the album and took a listen promptly. Still listening as I write this post actually. Noisia is known for assisting in pushing up the bar set for Drum & Bass producers world wide and have made some strides to do this hear as well. We were surprised a TAD bit about the lack of tear out Drum & Bass on this album. Noisia Radio surely gave us a hint to what was to come. Noisia Radio is known for the showing us some Neurofunk and every other track showing us some strongly hip-hop influenced beats. Outer Edges does somewhat the same. We were more impressed with some of the ideas set like in the track “The Entagled” With woodwinds, pads, strings, synths, bass whomps, and much more we were hit with a mood filled piece of art! Hip-Hop drop on that one by the way along with “Minatures” which is was the track sounds like.

“Mantra” was probably the most Future Beat influenced. We were impressed with the epic-ness of this audio. We were almost saddened however through the break until we were DESTROYED by the second drop! I said “Hurray! Some Drum & Bass!”

Our Pick from this album is…. *drum roll*

“Into Dust”

OH MY GOODNESS what a great track. While, its not long enough, this is some very epic Neurofunk! Our runner up is “Get Deaded.” We’ll not review the tracks and let them speak for themselves when you buy them.
